Live chat for WordPress

Mewdesk is one script tag before </body>. It works with any theme and any page builder, because it only needs to be in the page's HTML.

Where it goes

Paste it once on WordPress

The snippet is the same on every platform: one script tag just before the closing body tag. These steps show where that is on WordPress.

  1. 1

Copy your snippet from the dashboard

Add your website under Websites, using the domain you are installing on, and copy the snippet from its Embed code page. It has your site ID filled in; the one shown here uses a placeholder.

  2. 2

Classic theme: paste it in footer.php

Open Appearance › Theme File Editor and choose Theme Footer (footer.php). Paste the snippet just before </body>, after the wp_footer() call, then click Update File. Put it in a child theme so a theme update doesn't remove it.

  3. 3

Block theme, or no file access: use a header-and-footer plugin

Block themes such as Twenty Twenty-Four have no footer.php to edit, and some hosts hide the file editor. A plugin like WPCode (Insert Headers and Footers) has a Footer box under Code Snippets › Header & Footer; paste the snippet there and save. It loads on every page.

  4. 4

Reload a page on your site

The chat bubble appears in the corner you chose in the dashboard. If you run a caching plugin, clear its cache once so the new HTML is served.

Good to know

  • WordPress.com sites can add custom scripts on a plugin-enabled plan (any paid plan) once hosting features are activated. Self-hosted WordPress has no such limit.
  • Elementor, Divi, Bricks and other page builders need nothing extra: the tag belongs to the theme or the plugin, not to the builder.

What you get

The same Mewdesk, whatever your site runs on

The widget lives in its own iframe, so it looks and works the same on WordPress as everywhere else.

One script tag

That is the whole install. No npm package, no build step, no plugin to keep updated.

Replies in seconds

Visitors see your answer the moment you send it, without refreshing. Your team replies from one inbox.

Offline form

When nobody is online, visitors leave their email and a message, and the chat picks up where it left off.

No tracking cookies

No IP addresses, no fingerprinting, no third-party scripts. A name, an optional email and the conversation.

FAQ

Mewdesk on WordPress

Questions people ask before adding live chat to a WordPress site. For everything else, the general FAQ has the rest.

Is there a Mewdesk WordPress plugin?

No, and you don't need one. The whole install is one script tag in your theme's footer or in a header-and-footer plugin, so there is nothing extra to update, and it works with any theme and any page builder.

Does it work with caching plugins like WP Rocket or W3 Total Cache?

Yes. The snippet is plain HTML in your pages, so clear the cache once after adding it. If your caching plugin delays JavaScript until the visitor interacts, the chat bubble appears after their first scroll or tap; exclude widget.js from that option to show it right away.

Will the widget slow down my WordPress site?

No. The script loads asynchronously, so it never holds up your page, and the chat runs inside its own iframe, so your theme's CSS can't break it and it can't break your theme.
