data-site-id="YOUR_SITE_ID"

Where it goes

Paste it once on Squarespace

The snippet is the same on every platform: one script tag just before the closing body tag. These steps show where that is on Squarespace.

  1. 1

Copy your snippet from the dashboard

Add your website under Websites, using the domain you are installing on, and copy the snippet from its Embed code page. It has your site ID filled in; the one shown here uses a placeholder.

  2. 2

    Open Code Injection

In your site's panel open Website › Website Tools › Code Injection, or type Code Injection in the panel's search bar (older menus: Settings › Advanced › Code Injection). Code Injection is included on the Core, Plus and Advanced plans and on some legacy plans; the Basic plan doesn't have it.

  3. 3

    Paste the snippet in Footer

Use the Footer field, not Header, so the tag sits at the end of each page. Click Save.

  4. 4

    Open your site

The chat bubble appears on every page straight away. The site preview inside the editor may not run injected code; open your site in a normal tab.

Good to know

  • To add the chat to one page only, a Code block on that page holds the same snippet. Footer injection covers the whole site.

What you get

The same Mewdesk, whatever your site runs on

The widget lives in its own iframe, so it looks and works the same on Squarespace as everywhere else.

One script tag

That is the whole install. No npm package, no build step, no plugin to keep updated.

Replies in seconds

When nobody is online, visitors leave their email and a message, and the chat picks up where it left off.

No tracking cookies

No IP addresses, no fingerprinting, no third-party scripts. A name, an optional email and the conversation.

FAQ

Mewdesk on Squarespace

Questions people ask before adding live chat to a Squarespace site. For everything else, the general FAQ has the rest.

Which Squarespace plan do I need?

Code Injection is available on the Core, Plus and Advanced plans, and on some legacy plans such as Business. The Basic plan can't add scripts, so it can't run a live chat widget.

Does this work on both Squarespace 7.0 and 7.1?

Yes. Code Injection exists on both versions and the Footer field does the same thing on each.

Can I put the chat on one page instead of the whole site?

Yes. Add a Code block to that page and paste the snippet in it. Use Footer injection when you want the chat everywhere.
